John W. Horn, Q.C. - Associate Counsel

John Horn practices in the areas of Civil Mediation and Arbitration. As an advocate John has appeared in numerous civil and criminal trials before all levels of court. He is a recognized authority in the conduct and procedure of civil litigation in this province, and co-author of the definitive civil procedure text for B.C. lawyers - the 2-volume "Conduct of Civil Litigation in British Columbia", better known to other lawyers simply as "Fraser & Horn".

John holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (University of Cape Town) and a Bachelor of Laws degree (University of Cape Town). He was enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court of Rhodesia in 1957, and was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 1967. In 2003 he was appointed Queen's Counsel.

As a legal educator John has previously been a lecturer in Criminal Law at the University College of Rhodesia, Lawyer-in-Residence at the University of Victoria Faculty of Law, the Director of the Clinical Legal Programme at the University of British Columbia, and has organized and taught numerous Continuing Legal Education (CLE) courses in the areas of Civil Procedure and Trial Advocacy.

John's professional and charitable work includes terms as a Law Society Bencher, a Governor of the Law Foundation of British Columbia, Director and subsequently Chair of the Law Library Foundation, Member and subsequently Chair of the Attorney General's Committee for Rules Revision, Director and subsequently Vice-Chair of the Legal Aid Society, President of the Nanaimo City Bar Association and Director and subsequently Chair of the Nanaimo Symphony Society.
