Shelby J. O'Brien - Associate

Shelby O'Brien's practice focuses on corporate and commercial law matters, including banking and finance, the purchase and sale of businesses, the creation and organization of various business structures, and real estate transactions. Shelby also assists clients with wills and estates matters.

Prior to joining the firm in January 2007, Shelby worked as an associate for a large national law firm in Vancouver, where her work focused on banking, financing and commercial real estate matters. During that time Shelby gained a strong foundation in business law matters and is excited to have the opportunity to share her expertise with her Island clients.

Shelby possesses a B.A. (Lakehead University, Thunder Bay, Ontario) and a Bachelor of Laws degree (University of British Columbia). She was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 2004.

Shelby is an active member of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA). She belongs to the Women Lawyers’ Forum, the Banking Law and Real Estate Law subsections of the CBA.

Passionate about promoting the success of women in business, Shelby sits on the Board of the Nanaimo Women’s Business Network and is a member of the Woman Lawyer’s Forum Mentoring Committee, the Association of Women in Finance and the Forum for Women Entrepreneurs.

Away from the office Shelby enjoys spending time with her two daughters Aejah and Lylah. She volunteers and sits on the Board for the Parents' Association of Ecolé Océane and is an active participant in her girls' extracurricular activities.
